An ApplicationGod wasn't being mean here, He just wasn't inspired to pour out His blessing, His favor, anymore. The kingdom, and more specifically the rulers, had been getting away with enough bad that they needed punished, and rather than actively publish them God just gave them up to themselves (RO 1:28). If they didn't learn their lesson and repent, then the active punishment was inevitable. / Rehoboam didn't mess up the kingdom all on his own, it had never been mess-free. He forgot important details of...

Connect the Dots...government and paid the price. Leadership is not a birthright unless people give it to you, and you can't be an autocrat without a power base. A handful of bad advisors is not a power base (1KI 12:14). The Israelites (north & south) will remember 1SA 8:18 for the next 300 years.
