An ApplicationQuite an account of Jeroboam and the prophet facing off. Of course it was really Jeroboam and God facing off. We never want to be in a face off with God, we know who'll win every time. Though as we see here, His patience is infinitely greater than ours. Some of the prophecies came true immediately, the rest will be fulfilled over 300 years later in 2KI 23:15-18.

Connect the DotsIt didn't take Jeroboam long to waste the offer God made in 1KI 11:37-38. Maybe just 3 years: 2CH 11:17. / 1KI 12:29: God was clearly not happy about Jeroboam's choice to build a new place of worship at Bethel, and hundreds of years later the prophets will condemn Bethel for its compliance: HOS 10:15, AM 5:4-6. Dan had a strange history, too: JDG 18:30-31. / The festival on the 15th day of the month in 1KI 12:32 may have been reference to LEV 23:5-6 or 23:34.
