An Application1KI 18:39 records the people's minds being blown. What blows my mind is there's no record of God telling Elijah to do any of this, besides 1KI 18:1. The rest of the chapter seems to have been Elijah's discretion, and he chose an awesome way to setup the day to give maximum glory to God. Arguably an insane level of faith, James later told us this level is supposed to be the norm. There's a truism: "when you believe something, you act like it is true." Elijah did, may we all!

Connect the Dots1KI 18:24 was surely a setup, for Elijah surely knew DT 4:24. To pour on the symbolism, his timing in 1KI 18:36 was surely intentionally related to EX 29:38-43. Compare 1KI 18:28 to LEV 19:28, 1KI 18:36a to DAN 9:21b, and 1KI 18:36-39 to NUM 16:28-35 (not a surprising parallel between Moses & Elijah if we know these two alone will have the honor of talking with Jesus at the Transfiguration in LK 9:30.)
