An Application1KI 19:11-12 is a fascinating reveal of God's character. If the average mortal were God, we'd use the wind, earthquake, or fire. But God was ok being the soft whisper (MT 5:5). May we not blame Him if our expectation is that He be spectacular (LK 7:23). / 1KI 19:21 is called "burn the ships" now, and is commended by Jesus: LK 14:33.

Connect the DotsBeing a prophet is an emotionally exhausting job. Compare 1KI 19:4 to NUM 11:15, JDG 15:18, and JNH 4:3. Compare 1KI 19:2 to JN 11:45-46,53, 1KI 19:5-6 to MT 4:11, 1KI 19:11-13 to EX 33:18-23. / As a technicality, remember God has been the wind, earthquake, and fire. He just didn't feel the need to be so to Elijah this day. Just some examples were EX 3:1-3, 14:21-22, NUM 16:31-33. / 1KI 19:17 will be at least partially fulfilled by 2KI 8:28-29 and 2KI 10:6.
