An ApplicationIn 1KI 21:3, he took God seriously, no matter the cost. / We get a glimpse into the complex psyche of Ahab (not more complicated than anyone else.) At first, he just sulked at Naboth's reply, he wasn't going to challenge God's rule. That's a good start. But then his wife stepped in and she led him to sin (again). Ahab had the background, but not the backbone to stand for righteousness. Consider 1KI 21:27-29, Ahab wouldn't have done that if he had no respect for God. So when confronted...

Connect the Dots...by Elijah, he essentially repented, so God relented, a little. (This helps explain how he survived the last story, too.) The trick here was, Ahab believed in God, but he obeyed his wife. God warned us in DT 7:3-4. Solomon suffered a similar fate (1KI 11:3), and later we'll read belief is not good enough (JAM 2:19) but obedience is what is primary (1SA 15:22, MT 7:21, LK 6:46-49). May we choose to obey God in our lives.
