An ApplicationNotice 1SA 1:20 NIV says "in the course of time," which means Hannah was not pregnant when Eli spoke to her. God likes predicting the future as proof of His sovereignty. That's cool, but sometimes, like for Hannah, it requires patience on our part. But don't worry, God shows a lot more patience with us. / In 1SA 1:22, if she'd gone, she'd have given the appearance of breaking her oath by taking the boy and then taking him home.

Connect the DotsThere were five sons born to barren women in scripture, including Samuel. All were extraordinary. Compare GEN 11:30, GEN 29:31, JDG 13:2-3, and LK 1:7. (RU 4:13 may be a sixth.) / Compare Hannah dedicating Samuel (giving up her son) to Abraham and John 3:16. Hannah asked for something big, and God seems to answer those kinds of prayers more often when we do our part and (a) are grateful after the fact and (b) publicly give Him glory.
