An ApplicationAt the end Samuel kills Agag and literally cuts him to pieces. The key is not that he did, but why. (This same distinction is important for all acts of violence.) God said kill everything alive, including the evil king. Samuel didn't get into a debate with God on the political correctness of the command nor the supposed ethical implications, he just obeyed, covering for how Saul had not. May we continue to take God seriously, too. / 1SA 15:22-23 is a super important verse.

Connect the DotsWhat a wonderful example of human nature. Twice he said "I did obey the Lord," trying to add spin to what he knew was wrong, hoping he'd get away with it. We all do this all the time, unless we're intentional to put God first. / 1SA 15:19 may have additional context not explained. Saul's attack strategy may have resulted in numerous survivors. One of which will be mentioned in EST 3:1.
