An ApplicationThere are many ways God is patient with us, and there are times when He cares about results. His patience is infinitely greater than ours, but we cannot act like it is infinite. God is very forgiving, and when we mess up the phrase "it's the thought that counts" migth apply. But when we habitually mess up and fail to repent, or we are in a position of leadership and we allow others to knowingly mess up (sin) then we cross into a scenario where results matter (1SA 3:13).

Connect the Dots1SA 3:1 aludes to how it has been many years since the judges (or Joshua before them). Descriptions of time were given sequentially in JDG 3:8-14, 3:30, 4:1-3, 5:31-6:1, 8:40, 9:22, 10:1-8, 12:7-13, and 13:1. (JDG 15:20 indicates the 20 years in JDG 16:31 specifically may not have been sequential.) Adding all these up is 410 years. Then there was JDG 11:26, and adding up all the years until then is 319. Seems like someone was trying to keep an accurate record. Samuel leads Israel until 1SA 25:1.
