An Application1SA 4:3 was a horrendous idea. They were living out JDG 17:6 & 21:25 again, making up for themselves what God's limitations were (that He couldn't save them from the Philistines) and how to leverage Him (force Him to do what they wanted by bringing His most sacred object to the battle lines.) What a bad idea. Judas Iscariot tried to force Jesus (God) into doing what he thought was best, but God didn't take that too kindly (MT 26:24 & MK 14:21). Rather, we should be like Jesus in LK 22:42.

Connect the Dots1SA 4:9 is likely the opposite of EX 9:12. / Shiloh had been a special location since JOS 18:1, but due to the people's sin, God rejected it (JER 7:12-14, 26:4-6), though it's downfall isn't detailed more than this chapter. With the loss of the Tabernacle and the priests, the town never recovers. / Imagine being Ichabod, both parents and grandpa and uncle died on your birthday because of their sin. The devastation of our sin is serious, even if we take it lightly.
