An ApplicationInteresting contrast of 2CH 15:8 and 17. It takes a lot of character for a ruler to order that things his people made or bought be destroyed. Congratulations to Asa for doing some of it (the idols but not the places of worship). May we honor God too, and weed out any idols and places we worship that aren't pleasing to God. (Not the god of our invention, but the God of the Bible.)

Connect the DotsWe kind of got the idea that God dislikes that false god Asherah from EX 34:13, DT 7:5, 12:3, 16:21, so it makes sense God would've been pleased with 2CH 15:16. / Asa's grandma and great grandma had the same name: 2SA 3:2-3, 1KI 15:1-2. Curious she wasn't mentioned in 2SA 14:27 but it wouldn't be the first embarrassing detail that was left out. That's one evidence the Bible is true: that any embarrassing details about leaders were included at all (and there were plenty).
