An ApplicationRepairing the temple, good. Executing the son of your greatest human benefactor, not so much. Jehoiada was cool. He led the coop to overthrow the evil queen, he was father to his own son, surrogate father to the king, and high priest for the nation until he was a whopping 130 years old! Like Jehu (2KI 10:31), Saul (1SA 13:13-14, 15:28), and so many others, Joash seemed to have only been a fair-weather fan of God, obeying only so long as it was politically/selfishly convenient.

Connect the Dots2CH 24:17-19 was perhaps one of the saddest verses in this section of the Bible, rivaled by verses like 2CH 24:22. Not that there's any excuse, but Joash surely wasn't the most well-adjusted person in the kingdom, after spending his 1st through 7th birthdays (and every day in between) in the same room, as an orphan, in hiding for his life from his grandma (2KI 11:3). It was so sad that Jesus will compare it to the first murder in history (LK 11:50-51). Compare 2CH 24:22 to JDG 9:17-18.
