An ApplicationThis was the biggest physical salvation God demonstrated in the Bible. Not surprisingly, it just nonchalantly says the spirit went out and killed 185,000. What?? Hollywood would make a whole chapter from that one sentence. But that's not God's style. When God sent Elijah to Mt Sinai in 1KI 19:11-13, He sent rock-shattering wind, an earthquake, & fire, but He wasn't in those, rather He came in a small whisper that followed. God can & does save His people, but only according to His plan: MT 24:9.

Connect the Dots2KI 19:35 may be the greatest embarrassment in the history of the world. It was preceded by the very gutsy arrogance of 2KI 18:35, which was in turn probably preceded by NAH 1:1, 3:18-19. Sennacherib's siege was possibly a direct response to Nahum. 2KI 23:29 will allude to their fall to Babylon, though their nation will remain despite occupation, and much later the king of Assyria will show amicability to the Jews in EZR 6:22.
