An ApplicationEven after all the reforms Josiah made, God's attitude was still 2KI 23:26-27. While God-fearing rulers are critical, they're not enough. The people of the nation must fear God too, and purging the pagan alters was easy compared to purging the hearts and minds of the people.

Connect the Dots2KI 21 recorded Josiah's father's (Amon) and grandfather's (Manasseh) evil deeds, which had led to the need for this revival. They get all the blame because Josiah's great-grandfather (Hezekiah) was faithful to God (2KI 18:3,5). / The cleansing in 2KI 23:10 was ineffective, as we'll read the same sins again in JER 19:1-14. Bad habits die hard. / Compare 2KI 23:25 (Josiah) to 2KI 18:5 (Hezekiah).
