An ApplicationDespite 2KI 6:11-12, 18, & 23, the Syrian king, Benhadad, just couldn't leave his neighbors, the Israelites be. No reason is specifically recorded, but we have read of spiritual influencers before (JOB 1:9 and 1KI 22:19-23) and will again (ISA 14:4, EZE 28:12, LK 22:31, JN 10:10, 2CO 4:4). There's a recurring theme of who does the influencing when it's not specifically God.

Connect the DotsImagine how counterproductive it would have been had the government stepped in and fixed the price of goods during (2KI 6:25) and after (2KI 7:16) the siege. / 2KI 6:27, 31, & 33 reveal the depraved heart of king Joram. It's no wonder God let the Syrians attack, (a) as punishment for sin and (b) so He could demonstrate His saving power to a stubborn, unbelieving nation. / Joram, son of Ahab, was king of Israel from 2KI 3:1-9:24, so was the unnamed king mentioned in this story.
