An ApplicationDavid's worst failure. It started with him slacking off. (He sent Joab off, but he stayed home and took naps.) Maybe he earned a rest from battle, but he doesn't seem to have had anything better to do. It's hard to say that David shouldn't have been on his roof, unless the reason he went up there was just because he could look into people's homes. David already had 7 wives by now. But he lost focus on his life and more importantly on God, and excused himself to think and act greedy...

Connect the Dots...(GE 4:7, LK 12:15). We can fall into the exact same problem as David. Maybe not from the roof of a palace, but temptation is everywhere and we can excuse ourselves so easily (1CO 10:13). Clearly God was unhappy with what David had done, and David will be confronted on the matter. Then we'll see if David continues to be stubborn like he was in this chapter, or if he repents. Which is of course our choice too, after we fail, and so much more so after Jesus has sacrificed so much for us.
