An ApplicationGenerally, this was a story about taking God seriously, no matter the result. May we all, always. / We may remember the Gibeonites from JOS 9:3,6. The sin Saul committed against them (2SA 21:1) was not explicitly recorded, but 1SA 22:18-19 (the "all other inhabitants of Nob") would be fitting.

Connect the DotsPoor Rizpah (2SA 21:8-10), she had also been named in 2SA 3:7. Sometimes it's rough being close to the king. Comparing 2SA 21:1, 9, & 10, Rizpah was vigilant for up to 6 months from the beginning of harvest until the rains proved God's appeasement. Harvest was in April, normal rains weren't until October (note 1SA 12:17-18, PR 26:1). David dismissed the ceremonial DT 21:22-23 in favor of God's direct command regarding the moral sanctification of His name. / Compare 2SA 21:12 to 1SA 31:8-13.
