An ApplicationWomen 3-6 in 2SA 3:2-5  were most likely recent political alliance marriages by neighboring kings who saw David rising to power. Amnon and Absalom we'll read a lot about, Adonijah will get one chapter, and the other 3 will not be named again. None of these first 6 sons will be his successor. / Interesting how in 2SA 3:15 it was Ishbosheth, not Abner, who got Michal back. This probably indicated Ishbosheth knew he had blown his chance and was trying to play nice to see if by chance he could...

Connect the Dots...win favor with the people who would surely soon overpower him. / 2SA 3:39b will be fulfilled in one of David's successor's first acts as king. / David will find out the hard way one reason God gave the warning in DT 24:3-4 (even though neither man divorced Michal). / Contrasting David's concern for Abner with Saul's attitude could remind us of 1SA 13:13-14 & 15:27-28.
