An ApplicationACT 14:19, preaching the Gospel can be dangerous, for some (many) people don't want to be reminded of their accountability to an omnipotent, unchanging God (MT 7:13-14, JN 3:19-21). Influencing and being accountable to popular opinion, or self-directed religion, is thought of as so much more fun. We still see that today. But truth matters, and ideas have consequences.

Connect the DotsCompare ACT 14:4 to JN 7:12 and 10:19-21, ACT 14:8 to JN 9:1 and ACT 3:2, ACT 14:14 to ACT 10:26 and REV 22:8-9. Compare ACT 14:17 to DT 8:10-11 and ROM 1:18-20. Compare ACT 14:19 to 2CO 11:25. / This story is in the region of Galatia, so GAL 1:1-2 is to them. Exact times (durations) are difficult to infer from the text, but ACT 14:28 triangulates with ACT 15:2 and GAL 2:1 to inform us there were 14 years between ACT 9:1-2 and 15:4.
