An ApplicationACT 18:6 is a good reminder that while we are commanded to spread the good news (MT 28:18-20) we are generally not called to convince people who don't want to believe (MK 6:11). In part because if we don't want to believe, no proof will convince us. If our goal is to convince people despite themselves then we risk inappropriate escalation (MT 5:9, RO 12:18, & HEB 12:14). Keep in mind there is no prescription for evangelism, there are only parameters.

Connect the DotsIt's unclear if Sosthenes was beaten in ACT 18:17 because he had already converted to the faith (as evidenced that he eventually will by 1CO 1:1) or if it was because, as leader of the synagogue, he failed expectations to lead the Jews to victory in condemning Paul. / This story is who 1CO 1:1-2 & 2CO 1:1 are written to.
