An ApplicationACT 7 was what could be called a perfect storm, but was more an example of divine providence. God had told them to go (MT 28:18-20) after receiving the Holy Spirit (ACT 1:4,8) but they'd not yet gone (ACT 5:12). So it seems then that God used Stephen (in a good way, like so many prophets in the old testament) to slam proverbial nails into the religious leaders coffins by confronting them to their face (yet again) and thereby inspiring the persecution so the message would spread farther & faster.

Connect the DotsStephen was the first martyr for Jesus. Compare how the disciples were scattered via persecution in ACT 8:4 to how the people were scattered at Babel in GE 11:9. In both cases, God was reigning sovereign. / We'll read more about Saul (ACT 7:58) soon. The term "young man" probably more a sign of brotherly affection than a scientifically accurate description. / ACT 7:42-43 is quoting AMOS 5:25-27, ACT 7:49-50 is quoting ISA 66:1-2. Compare ACT 7:53 to 1SA 15:22 & MT 7:21, ACT 7:58a to LEV 24:14.
