An ApplicationAmaziah is sadly typical. God was warning people not to go to Bethel, so naturally the priest of Bethel was concerned about this (AM 7:10). Oh the irony of Amaziah's concern for the country. But it's not surprising, all non-believers are always afraid when God threatens to come in and set things straight. We'll see a lot of this in the gospels with the religious leaders of Jesus's day.

Connect the DotsAmos is not referenced elsewhere in scripture other than his own book. The Jeroboam he named was Jeroboam II. / For timing, compare AM 1:1 (and interesting follow up trivia in ZEC 14:5). / False prophets are liars and they know it, and they must assume everyone else is too, so they themselves are then no worse. Amaziah lied about the sword/battle in AM 7:11. / Amos has wonderful descriptions of God in his book. / It'll take a century, but Amos's prophecy of exile (AM 5:6) will come true.
