An ApplicationEX 18:16, Moses's perspective is interesting, he was conveying "God's commands and laws," but we're still 2 chapters before the 10 Commandments (EX 20) and Leviticus. God had been preparing Moses for the larger job ahead. The same can be found in our lives. Smaller responsibilities come first, then as we prove competent, God gives us larger responsibilities. When we look back at our lives we can see this, so we should expect it as we look forward, too. Compare LK 16:10.

Connect the DotsIt's not clear why Moses's father in law goes by two names: Reuel in EX 2:18-20 and NUM 10:29, and Jethro in EX 3:1, 4:18, and ch 18. But he wouldn't be the only person in human history to have more than one name (GE 32:28, JN 1:42, 21:2). / EX 18:2 is likely expanding on details only implied in EX 4:29. / Compare EX 18:13 and 2:14. / It's easy to incorrectly assume the Israelites were good Jews already, but surely not.
