An ApplicationThe women were certainly the heros in this story. Those midwives were cool (EX 1:15,19) Moses's mom was too (EX 2:2-3, 6:20) his sister was bold (EX 2:4,7, NUM 26:59) as was the princess (EX 2:6,9). EX 1:17 implied all these women intuited ACT 5:29, that when men force us to choose between obedience to themselves or God then we are to choose God over man. This has a tendency to make men mad (ACT 5:33) which highlights the bravery of these ladies.

Connect the DotsThe "new" and "came to power" in EX 1:8 indicates this Pharaoh was not the son of the previous. He was not Ramses, despite EX 1:11. The mention of The City of Ramses here was likely a case of historical revisioning, using a name that later readers would recognize. (One reason is Ramses's son, Ramses II's reign was good and not followed by collapse.) The royal record gets real messy only a few years after Amenemhat III, so reconstructing exactly who this king was is difficult at best.
