An ApplicationEX 4:24-26 is certainly an odd story. Presumably there was some back story here we weren't given. That is common when it would embarrass someone important, but we can only guess why this is left feeling so out of place. / Not only will the Egyptians be tested in this arch story of the exodus, so will the Israelites. In EX 4:31 they passed. If only we always passed. But sometimes faithfulness to God will be very costly. That is when we really find out what (who) our priorities are.

Connect the DotsThe original language of EX 4:24 could easily have referred to Moses's son as much as it could to Moses. / EX 4:20 says his wife & two sons went with him, but we'll learn in EX 18:2 she was left behind. The reconciliation is EX 4:29 implies Zipporah turned back with the kids, and Moses and Aaron continued on alone. Eliezer, Moses's second son, will only be named twice in the whole Bible: in EX 18:3-4 and 1CH 23:15-17.
