An ApplicationClearly God is very mad at Zedekiah, and this was hardly the first warning. In JER 38:17-18, God gave Zedekiah a chance to repent, really putting His money where His mouth was in EZE 18:23. / While EZE 17:16 was bad, EZE 17:19 was key.

Connect the DotsApparently in 2KI 24:17, Zedekiah had been seen by Nebuchadnezzar as a legitimate ambassador for the Living God of Israel, and so Neby had Zedy swear in God's name to be faithful (EZE 17:18-19). God didn't appreciate the slander Zedy's rebellion caused to His reputation (LEV 19:12, EZE 36:23). God had a plan for Neby, and He would do it with or without Zedy's help. / It's easy to quote PR 12:15 after the fact. Contrast EZE 17:19 to JOS 9:16-21.
