An ApplicationGenerally speaking, Sara's idea in GE 16:2 was horrible. A. It demonstrated a lack of understanding of God's power, and B. the family chaos it caused for the rest of time was definitely not worth it. But God gives us freedom of choice, we just have to live with the consequences. And even though Ishmael was a living symbol of unfaithfulness, God still had compassion anyway (GE 16:10). In part, because God loves people, and in part because of Abram (GE 17:18).

Connect the DotsHagar in GE 16:1 may have been acquired in GE 12:16. / Compare GE 16:9 to EPH 6:5-6, COL 3:22, TIT 2:9, and 1PE 2:18. / Hagar & Sarai and their offspring will be strategically contrasted later in GAL 4:22-31.
