An ApplicationGE 19:31 is an example of self-justification of Biblical proportions. In just the previous verse (GE 19:30) they had voluntarily, peacefully left a small town. Unless it was Themyscira, there were surely men in that town, so there was no valid reason to claim their father was the last man on earth. Like Eve in GE 3:6, Lot's daughters were self-deluded into thinking they could choose their own reality. Bad things happened when they did, and will when we try it, too.

Connect the DotsOriginally, when our genetic diversity was at the maximum, incest was the only option. Incest won't be outlawed by God for another half a millenia after this story. / Compare GE 19:37 to DT 2:9, and GE 19:38 to DT 2:19, as well as DT 23:3. Both of these nations will cause trouble for the descendants of Abraham & Sarah for centuries, as far out as 2CH 20:1 and ZEP 2:8-10.
