An ApplicationThe fact that Abraham had a concubine reminds us he was human. While he demonstrated faith of Biblical proportions, he was just a man, and so are many of us reading this. Whether man or woman, boy or girl, God can and wants to use us for His purpose.

Connect the DotsIn GE 25:1 the original Hebrew doesn't say "married," and in GE 25:6, the word was concubine(s) not wives. These had a completely different legal status than wives, as did their offspring. The location of this description at the end of his life, right before his death, is likely more literary than chronological, especially after GE 21:2, 24:1, and with HEB 11:12. / GE 25:2 Midianites will be around a while. / GE 25:7 Ishmael was 89 and Isaac was 75 (GE 16:16, 21:5).
