An ApplicationEssau's wives were surely idol worshiping pagans (GE 26:34-35), what else would they be. Later, when Jacob's descendants will become a new nation, God will command them not to marry foreigners. Not because God is discriminatory on any particular demographics (height, weight, skin tone, hair color, wealth, heritage, etc.) but He is very discriminatory on our worship (DT 7:3-4, 6:14-15) and our worldview, and the choices they influence us to make (ISA 66:2, PR 6:16-19, JER 9:23-24, LK 12:5).

Connect the DotsIn GE 27:10, Rebekah was showing favoritism for Jacob, surely because she remembered God's prophecy in GE 25:23, surely Jacob had told his mom about the vow in GE 25:33, and also probably because she all around thought Jacob was more trustworthy and deserving than his reckless brother, after at least GE 25:32 & 26:34-35. Even after GE 26:35 it took until GE 28:8 for him to realize it. Sometimes we're all a little slow.
