An ApplicationThe devil is a liar (JN 8:44, 2CO 11:14-15, REV 12:9) and used the serpent as a pawn, just as he uses everyone else. Serpent, Eve, & Adam were duped by Satan, but being tricked didn't get them out of suffering the consequences of their own choices to disregard God's word (GE 2:16-17, 3:6). We, too, are responsible for our choices, even when people are lying to us. That is why it is so vitally important to both know and care about (obey) God's word. When deciding who to obey, remember JN 10:10.

Connect the DotsStarting with GE 3:6-7, all humans are sinful & in need of a savior (IS 43:11, LK 18:19). Praise God He loves us anyway: RO 5:8, if and only if we accept Him at His word: JN 3:16-18. / God knew how thorns (GE 3:18) were going to be used: MK 15:17, JN 19:2. / Jesus's description of Himself in LK 24:27 would have started with GE 3:15, which was the first prophecy about Him. Jesus (MK 10:6) and Paul (1CO 15:22, 2CO 11:3, 1TI 2:13) spoke of Adam and Eve as real, historical people. We should too.
