An Application
GE 43:14 (and this whole broader story) is a reminder that God has a plan, wants to bless us, but sometimes has a very different method of doing so than we expect (ISA 55:8-9, JER 29:11) for He has our true, long term, not just immediate benefit in mind. May we trust and obey. God had personally told Jacob he would be the ancestor of kings. Jacob assumed he had to protect his sons, and wasn't thinking God had a more elaborate (far more interesting) plan in the works. How often are we the same?
Connect the Dots
Comparing GE 43:7 to GE 42:12-13, it's unclear if Moses left out some nonessential detail in the earlier story, or if the brothers embellished their story in the retelling. Neither is problematic for the accuracy of the whole account.
