An ApplicationJudah was intuiting what Jesus will later say in JN 15:13. Joe had laid an insanely wise test before his brothers to determine their character. Were they still the same jerks who threw him in that well, 22 years ago, or were they better than that now? Judah is named 3 times in this climactic story, none of his other brothers were. Judah's character was put to the test and he passed, possibly redeeming his extended family. God cares about our character, too: 1SA 16:7, GAL 5:22-23.

Connect the DotsGE 44:14 was fulfillment of GE 37:9./ Curious difference between GE 44:18 and 42:37. Perhaps in ch.42 all the brothers made similar claims and Reuben's was just most noteworthy after GE 37:21. Reuben was Jacob's first born, Judah was fourth, both from Leah (GE 29:31-35). Judah is in the genealogy of Jesus. Hard to say how long it had been since GE 38:26, but perhaps Judah learned more than we know from that experience.
