An ApplicationGE 6:17 clearly says this'll be a worldwide flood. God was serious, but as we'll see over and over throughout the Bible, His anger was righteous and caused by our sin (GE 6:5-7,11-13). We made Him mad, but He still had mercy on the one innocent guy and his family. Later, God will be clear with us, even in His anger, when He punishes us, His goal is not destruction but our repentance: EZE 18:23. Unfortunately, we have tendency to be a stubborn people: DT 9:6, JER 7:26, REV 9:20-21.

Connect the DotsGE 5:29 is a curious comment. There's inadequate context to determine the real intent behind this statement, and hard to tell if Noah was used as a slave by his dad or what. It's also unexplained why Noah was over 500 when he had his kids, though the average age of the other two dozen fathers described in Genesis and Exodus was only 78. / Hard to imagine what it'd be like to live in a society where God deemed everyone alive worthy of extermination (GE 6:5, 6:9-13, 7:1).
