An ApplicationThe Jews weren't slacking off necessarily, they were obeying the king (former king: EZR 4:21). And obeying the government is good (ROM 13:5, 1PE 2:17). But there comes a time when the government can put its own interests ahead of God's, and at that point God's expectations are clear. The Jews were actively being punished for honoring the king over God (HAG 1:6). If we must choose between God and king, we should always choose God (ACT 5:29).
