Some ThoughtsThis is possibly the best example in scripture of the people wanting to honor God but the king (the government) rejecting Him. The people intuited and rightly feared JER 49:12 because of earlier themes like JOS 22:18. / In JER 36:11 was another time when a descendant of Shaphan was a protagonist in the account (remember JER 26:24). / Someone named Cushi is named in JER 36:14, he's only named elsewhere in ZEP 1:1. (Note, Shaphan is only directly mentioned in 2KI 22:3-14 / 2CH 34:8-20.)
