An ApplicationWhat a sad example of fearing men more than God (JER 38:19). Fearing God is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible (highlights: EX 20:20, 2SA 23:3-4, PS 34:7, PR 9:10, LK 12:5) and fearing men over God is specifically discouraged (PR 29:25, ACT 5:29). Also, trusting God (PR 3:5-6, 16:20) is more important than men (PS 118:8-9, 146:3-4, JER 17:5). How much better of a king could Zedy have been with good council (PR 11:14, 24:6)?

Connect the DotsInteresting that Passhur, son of Malchiah (JER 38:1) is also named in 1CH 9:1-2, 12, and NEH 11:12, both of which take place post-exile, which implies Passhur repented of his arrogance at some point, possibly during the exile.
