An ApplicationThe good news from this story is God was willing to protect and care for them even after all they'd already done to Him. The same is true for us. The not so good news is, a true believer can expect many interactions with non-believers who act like Johanan (hypocritical and proud) but we must choose to honor God rather than man and when man chooses to make his word contradict God's word, then we must choose God's word over man's word. God said so in JER 17:5, and the apostles in Acts 5:29.

Connect the DotsContrast JER 42:6 and 44:16. Wow. / Johanan and the rest were not thinking of PS 116:12 nor ISA 45:22. It's amazing how many times God still offered the people the chances to choose the path of relationship with Himself (for example, 2CH 7:14, JER 26:2-3, EZE 18:23, and HOS 6:6) but most of the time we choose the path of rejecting Him. So what's God supposed to do with us (JER 9:12-14, EZE 29:9)?
