An Application
A week ago Jesus brought someone back from the dead, and all the establishment leaders could think about was how He was causing people to wonder at God rather than scramble for every word they uttered (JN 12:10-11). We can imagine them saying "But *we* were the ones who had the authority to speak on God's behalf, and *no one* is going to take that privilege away from us, not even in the name of God, because by definition, He's us!" Don't imitate them (MT 23:15) and don’t support those who do.
Connect the Dots
The same people who hated Lazarus would've hated Paul, too, for he explicitly pointed out 1TI 2:5. God never sided with the establishment. Nor did He side with rebels. He doesn't come to take sides, He comes to take over. No one resents this more than those who think they're in power, or that they deserve it.
