An ApplicationAgain, like in the previous story, Jesus perhaps didn't defend Himself because it would've been too easy, and it was His plan to be crucified at this exact time long before anyone here had the idea. That doesn't let the jerks who put Him through it off the hook, but it's not like Jesus was caught unprepared. This was The Plan. Presumably JN 19:1-3 was yet another example of God bringing His wrath through wicked men (remember ISA 10:5, AM 6:14, HAB 1:5-6), wrath *we* deserved, but He took for us.

Connect the DotsCompare JN 19:15 to 1SA 8:5-7. The phrase "what were they thinking" comes to mind. / The parallel account in MT 27:11-31 mentions Pilate's wife and washing his hands of the situation and the people accepting blame for themselves and their children. The LK 22:66-23:25 parallel account mentions Herod, and Pilate and Herod will be remembered in ACT 4:27?-?28. / Even with the riot forming (MT 27:24) Pilate had alternatives as will be demonstrated in AC 18:14-16 & 19:35-41.

⌖ Map: Passion Week in Jerusalem, there are two leading locations where Pilate's trial of Jesus could have occurred, according to Baptist Press, but neither exist above ground anymore.
