An ApplicationJN 20:25 seems odd, but wasn't random. He was probably inspired to say this because of JN 20:20. Then Jesus waited a week to come back (JN 20:26). He could've come that moment, or 5 minutes later. Possible He waited to give Thomas time to wrestle with his own mind. Seeing is not always believing (LK 16:31) but it appears this time, for Thomas, it was. The rest of us probably won't get that kind of in-our-face, irrefutable evidence. Faith is a part of God's design (HEB 11:1, 6).

Connect the DotsJN 20:23, notice they were given authority to forgive, not authority to define right and wrong. Big difference. They'd already been commanded to forgive (MT 6:14-15) so this wasn't some major upgrade setting up the beaurocracy of the church, especially not after Jesus was so mad at the establishment of the day. Why would He just go and start another? But some people think that's exactly what He did. We don't need to force human establishment into the Bible for many reasons, including 1TI 2:5.
