An ApplicationIt would seem by this story that the Israelites had got pleasing God figured out. Sadly, this is quite a contrast to our next story.

Connect the DotsThe limit of only one place of worship was introduced by God through Moses, taking up the first half of DT 12. / Two examples of God punishing the whole nation when only one or a few sinned were recorded in NUM 25:1-3, 9, and JOS 7:1, 5. He had taken sin very seriously, and if the nation didn't condemn the sin too, then God condemned the nation, as forewarned in DT 29:19. This was summarized for the people in JOS 22:18, and is still true today.
