Some ThoughtsThis was a highly symbolic event for the Israelites. God had given this land to their anscestor, Abraham, back in Genesis, and God had commanded them about a year prior (recorded in Deuteronomy) to come here, deep in enemy territory, as a promise that they'd make it. And then Joshua both copied and read the laws (revelation) of God to the people. Remember this was before the printing press and Internet, copies were not easy to come by.
