An ApplicationThe Gibeonites were tricky, but notice why. In JOS 9:24 they said they feared God. So they were spared. Not only did the Israelites not kill them, but God didn't either. Fearing God is a great start to any political, military, or personal decision. Here are some highlights from scripture about fearing God: 1SA 12:24, PR 9:10, ECC 12:13, LK 12:5.

Connect the DotsRemember Noah's curse in GE 9:24-26? It was never explicitly endorsed by God, other than God bothered to include it in scripture. But more to the point, among other places, we see it coming true in this story. / Most of us aren't in positions to make treaties (or the opposite) but we are in a position to give our word. Centuries later Jesus made a comment about giving our word in MT 5:37.
