An ApplicationThis is a story for us, 3 millennia later, we need to read carefully to understand. Jephthah is kicked out of his family to fend for himself, then years later his family comes to him for help. Since the whole community agrees for him to be their leader, either the community is dumb or Jephthah has proven himself over the years away to be a strong leader. If it was the latter, then evidence of this would be a family of his own, and hired hands...

Connect the Dots...If he had hired hands at home then it could've been very normal for one of them to be first to meet him at the door when he came home. If JDG 11:31 hadn't been immediately preceded by JDG 11:29 then we'd think Jephthah was crazy. But God was right in the middle and surely had a plan.
