An ApplicationBoth sons remind us of the depth of God's love for us. For the younger, in LK 15:20, while he was still far away, the father was watching for him, and ran. No other god has been described like this. / We also see here the value of repentance. It's more than apologizing, it's admitting God is right, I am not, and I commit to change both my mind and my behavior to prove it.

Connect the DotsJN 1:14 says Jesus came full of grace & truth. The older son focused more on truth, the younger relied on grace. We must strive to be like Jesus and be full of both. / James will describe in JAM 1:23-24 a person who looks in a mirror and sees nothing wrong. The prodigal son starts off this way, then correctly saw himself in the mirror (LK 15:17-19) and did as God recommended in ISA 45:22. / We'll read another parable about two brothers soon, beginning in MT 21:28.
