An ApplicationThis is a spiritual parable, not the first (and only) time Jesus tried to give us instruction on handling money. Likely the gold coins represent faith. God gave them each a degree of faith, and they multiplied it by sharing their faith and inspiring other new faithful people (sometimes called evangelism). The one who hid their faith didn't share it, but simply was glad God had blessed him, or maybe even felt guilty about it. Notice the king was happy for any return (MT 11:30).

Connect the DotsCompare the third servant in LK 19:20 to the farmer in LK 12:16-20 (not an exact equivalence, but a compare.) Jesus warned against the attitude and behavior demonstrated by the third servant in MT 3:8 & 21:43. Clearly God has expectations for us: MT 7:21 & JAM 1:22. / Compare LK 19:25-26 to MT 13:12. / JN 3:16 is very important, but so is JN 3:18, and LK 19:27 seems to be confirmation.
