An ApplicationThis was a helpful analysis and analogy to contextualize why different people respond in such different ways to Jesus, and why some people can choose apostasy (denying their faith after demonstrating and even sharing it.) May we actively/consciously choose to be the good soil (GE 4:7). Note, Jesus didn't specifically say there are only 4 types, He simply named 4 in His parable. / Compare MT 13:14-15 to DT 29:4 (and ISA 6:9-10).

Connect the DotsThere is a saying in Christian circles, "once saved always saved." It's based on RO 8:38-39. But a more useful concept is described here. If we are the "good soil" and the message actually sinks in, then nothing can take it away. But if our "soil" is not good, we could give into temptation and abandon Christ after hearing and accepting Him (MT 13:20-21, JN 15:5, 1TI 6:10, 20-21). While God knows, we don't know what kind of soil another person is, so "once saved always saved" is not helpful.
