An ApplicationThe trial here was a farce. Jesus perhaps didn't defend Himself because it would've been too easy, and it was His plan to be crucified at this exact time long before they had the idea. That doesn't let the jerks who put Him through it off the hook, their choices & behavior were still evil and wrong, but it's not like Jesus was caught unprepared. This was The Plan. Notice His active suffering started in MT 26:67, not just on the cross, though the heat only goes up from here (remember MT 5:39).

Connect the DotsThe closest spitting in a person's face comes to being in the law was NUM 12:14 and DT 25:9. / If the rooster crowing indicated it was dawn (roosters crow more than just once a day) Jesus and Peter now hadn't slept in 24 hours. These circumstances would've been brutal after a good night's sleep, how much more on zero sleep (remember MT 26:43). / The paradigm clashes were becoming clear, I blogged, here.
