An ApplicationAlong with the previous story, these are the saddest stories in the Bible, and in all of history. Our complete rejection of our Creator and Savior. (Next saddest would be GE 3.) But it was (a) according to God's perfect justice, (b) a prerequisite for the next story, and (c) a mind blowing demonstration of the depth of God's love for us: our King would voluntarily die in our place for our crimes against Him. After all this, don't ask for "another way" to heaven, be glad there is one (JN 14:6).

Connect the DotsCompare how Jesus bodily entered the world in LK 2:7 to how His body was handled after He died in JN 19:40. / JN 12:42 must have included Joseph (MT 27:57) though the location of Arimathea has been lost. / MT 27:46 was prophecied in PS 22:1 and sort of PS 42:9-10. MT 27:50 is expanded in JN 19:28-30, and was prophesied in PS 22:14-15. / In Luke's parallel account, LK 23:34 was prophecied in PS 22:16-18, and LK 23:46 was prophecied in PS 31:5. In JN 19:30 Jesus decided when to die.
