An ApplicationSo Joseph went to Egypt, there was a genocide, then (later) a departure from Egypt, and instead of going directly to the destination a detour was made. Sound familiar? Matthew will also emphasize 5 major speeches, like 5 books of Moses's Torah (each ending with MT 7:28, 11:1, 13:53, 19:1, 26:1). The Bible is full of parallels like these, because God is good at making them.

Connect the DotsIn MT 2:23, Joseph took his family back to his hometown after a few years stay in Bethlehem (compare LK 1:26, 2:4). / Joseph was visited by God in 4 dreams (MT 1:20, 2:13, 19, 22). Many divine dreams occurred in the time of the patriarchs (including GE 20:3, 31:11, 31:24), Solomon (1KI 3:5), Daniel (DAN 7:1), and the wise men were just visited in a dream (MT 2:12). Curious with so many dream visits why God never sent to Joseph an angel during the day.
